In a story similar to that of David versus Goliath, British singer Billy Bragg is protesting against the British Government in an effort to encourage citizens not to pay their taxes. The singer says the British Government has its priorities wrong if it allows hefty bonuses to be paid to bankers while the country’s debt load will mean cuts in public spending.
Government bailouts during the recent credit crisis has left the British government holding 84% of Royal Bank of Scotland and 43% of Lloyds Banking Group. Recent reports estimate that RBS will pay investment bankers about 1.5 Billion pounds ($2.52 billion Canadian) in bonuses next month.
