We collect and store information in two categories: Account Information and Tax Return Data.
Account Information includes your email address, IP address, and non-identifiable return metadata such as your province of residence and initials. We retain minimal Account Information for all users and use it only to manage your account and assist with support requests.
Tax Return Data is the personal information required to complete your tax return. By default, your Tax Return Data is securely stored in the cloud and is protected using encryption.1 Your data is yours and you can export and/or delete your data at any time. You may opt-out of cloud storage and choose to use Local File Storage. When you file your return, your data is securely transmitted through our servers to the CRA.
We provide reasonable and appropriate security measures in connection with securing your personal information. We comply with applicable laws and security standards and we do not share any data with third parties except as required by law.
We collect anonymized diagnostic and usage data. No personal information is included in this data and it will only be used for product enhancements and support.
If you use AI-powered features, we may send limited portions of your Tax Return Data and other content you provide to third-party providers to generate contextual answers. We protect your privacy by minimizing what we send and filtering out personal identifiers (including your name, social insurance number, date of birth, email address, phone number, and address) before any information is sent. Anything you type into a chat or search box may also be sent. Our third-party providers do not retain the information we send or use it to train their models. AI is disabled when using Local File Storage.
By using the Product, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you have any questions or concerns about your privacy or data security, please send us an email. We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy as needed. We will notify you of any changes by Electronic Means.
1. We use AES-GCM with unique 256-bit keys and secure key wrapping via AES-KW. Our encryption service is handled separately, with automatic and frequent master key rotation for enhanced security.
