Report all capital gains and losses in the T5008 (or other capital gains) section, even if you didn't receive a T5008 slip for the disposition.

Reporting amounts in T5008 (or other capital gains) will automatically add a Schedule 3 to your return.

You must report:

  • whether you received a T5008 slip,
  • what type of property you disposed of,
  • your "proceeds of disposition" (how much you sold it for),
  • your "adjusted cost base", and
  • your outlays or expenses, if any.

All other fields in that section are generally optional.

You cannot claim net capital losses on line 12700. However, you can carry net capital losses back up to three years (form T1A) or carry them forward indefinitely to offset future capital gains.
